Is early specialization good? March 4, 2010

Thomas Sauvaget asked a question on MO on whether specializing early is a good thing. It got into an interesting discussion, which continues on his blog. I have placed some of my own thoughts there, so I won’t ramble here.
In an unrelated note, if you haven’t already seen it, you ought to watch the MAA’s great 
AH yes. I am organizing the pi day festivities at my university next year and these ideas will help keep things original!
At least, the pi e debate is good. I dont know if having other days will help tremendously.
